Chorus: But I can’t go on living in your broken whiskey glass Someday you’ll find an epitaph that reads: “Here lies Jason strangled by a love that wouldn’t breathe Strangled by a love that wouldn’t breathe” 1) You went to church in your party dress Trying to live those blues that you read From a rock’n’roll magazine so neat and clean I tried to fight through that emptiness I feel every time you undress Because your Playgirl heroes will fade away when the morning ray shines down 2) You went to Memphis to find yourself Read every Elvis book on the shelf Even popped a pill or two to feel like a honky tonk star But the river didn’t seem so wide ‘Cause you were looking out not inside White soul heroes are made of more than legends trashed up dreams

about

These are the inaugural recordings of Jason & The Scorchers when they were first named Jason and The Nashville Scorchers. The original version of Reckless Country Soul was a 4 song vinyl EP recorded in a living room in four hours December 6, 1981. This edition also includes six tracks recorded at Sun Studios in Memphis in 1982. Overdubs and studio tricks were kept to a minimum during these sessions. This record captures the band at its original primal fury.
