Beat On the Mountain (Arty Hill-Jason Ringenberg) 1) I’ve been working in this mine since 1984 Just like my Daddy did and his Dad did before Stand in line and ride that train down where I can’t see Trying to break down that wall of coal in front of me 2) The preacher tried to teach me what was wrong and right But I learned all my lessons with carbide light Down where air is precious where losers lose it all Where to stand and be a man you have to learn to crawl I beat on the mountain With a hammer keeping time Way down in the dungeon Where the sun don't shine Down in the heart of the darkness You can hear my hammer ring I beat on the mountain But the mountain don't say a thing Bridge: Back in ’37 the strikers shut ‘em down The bosses brought the hard men in to run us out of town Nowadays the union rep still don’t my name The days of scrip are over but the dust rolls just the same 3) How I love this mountain, my father’s buried on Every day I dig the coal he built his life upon Some folks say that our way of life is out of time But as for now I’m caught between the mountain and the mine

Mona Lee 03:09
MONA LEE Ginger Wildheart-Jason Ringenberg- Warner E. Hodges It doesn't matter what we thought in 1993 Everything is bound to change, including you and me When the dawn is breaking something will be broke Are we getting misty eyed or are we seeing smoke? Mona Lee, mon amour We've been down this road before Are your demons keeping score and keeping time? Mona Lee, mon amie There is no place I'd rather be And I'm waiting on you waiting on a sign. 16 years or 16 months, to me it's all the same You stand no chance of winning unless you play the game I've never been the kind to stand outside looking in But I keep coming back to find that I'm standing here again (chorus) We're bound to find that now’s the time That time won't wait. If I'm resigned to read your mind Then we could be too late.

Land Of The Free 1) John John the poor man’s son sent to fight the Viet Cong The jungle held such mystery and ancient hated history Well fed and poorly led another fresh face good as dead Wild eyed how he cried finding courage deep inside And the music plays And the band gets saved Will you ride with me To the land of the free? 2 Jane Jane superbrain metal crutch and phantom pain Twice they sent her over there with iron will and undyed hair The desert held such mystery such suicidal history Her PHD was good as sand in that crazy worthless land And the music plays And the band gets saved Will you ride with me To the land of the free? And the music plays And the bandit says Will you ride with me To the land of the free?

Golden Days 03:49
Somewhere a long time ago Took a walk to a record store 5 bucks no price to pay Playing Jerry Lee 20 times a day I was 19 and the world was mine The phone rang and I didn’t mind Going round and round and round. Halcyon times. Going round and round and round. Halcyon times. Cut ahead and I’m 21 I can buy a drink, I can buy a gun I can drive a car past the county line I can meet a girl and make her mine Get a job, bring the money home The whole world is a pleasure dome Going round and round and round. Halcyon times. Going round and round and round. Halcyon times. These are golden days Blue skies light my way God bless, God save golden days Cut ahead and I’m 25 She was so right and so alive A set of vows and a baby boy One heart barely held the joy Summertime by the riverside A hot grill and a double-wide Going round and round and round. Halcyon times. Going round and round and round. Halcyon times. These are golden days Blue skies light my way God bless, God save golden days Looking back now it seems to be This old life’s been good to me There’s been hard times but I can’t complain I would go back and do it all again

1) Staring down on a barrel fire gonna burn my sins away Diggin' down in the here and now 'til tomorrow is yesterday A credit card and a shotgun shell and 25 cents in cash Give it a throw into the orange glow, stand back and watch it flash. A senator on the evening news Wants to buy me a drink and a pair of shows So I say "what the hey, I got nothing to lose" And I'm gone. Deaf and dumb Rip and roll The day has come To keep your money and save your soul Got it going on We got it going on. Does an empire falling ever make a sound? 2) Baring down on a barrel horse with a side car made of glass Waking up on a bed of nails up on Hibernation Pass Blacking out on a rush of pain kinda felt like home to me In the end I learn again that freedom isn't free A hippy girl with a book of dreams Wants to give me a kiss and a plate of beans So I say "what they hey, if you know what I mean" And I'm gone. Crash and burn Rise and fall Live and learn To keep your money and save your soul.

about

This release is the last studio album by Jason & The Scorchers. Widely lauded in the press and Americana world, the album showed the band at the peak of the creative powers of the two original remaining members Jason Ringenberg and Warner E. Hodges. It also contains 4 songs which included original drummer Perry Bagg adding harmony vocals. It was his last recorded work before he passed away from diabetes complications. Several friends of the band joined in to help make the record, including Dan Baird, Ginger Wildheart, and Tommy Womack. Pontus Snibb from Sweden, a good friend of Jason's and the frontman for the successful Swedish hard rock band Bonafide played drums and harmonies. Al Collins from the Stacie Collins Band played bass. They did two world tours on the back of this record.
